SRINAGAR: The Jamait-I-Islami has rejected Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar’s offer of talks. The Hizbul Mujahideen the militant of the party said it was a ploy to stall the freedom struggle in Kashmir.

In a statement the Hizbul Mujahindeen said the seemingly harmless offer was an attempt to create confusion among the militants and to erode the popular base of the movement.

While welcoming the Jamat stand that the talks would only be held in the context of the UN security council resolutions for Kashmir the Hizbel warned that bilateral negotiations between the Govt and the militants with the exclusion of Pakistan Azad Kashmir and the UN would rob the dispute of its international character This in tum would render the UN resolution ineffective moreover it pointed that the offer of talks itself suggested that the Govt did not want to implement the UN resolution

Apart from insisting on the inclusion of UN Pakistan and Azad Kashmir in the talks the militants have demanded that the Govt commit itself to implement the UN resolution.

The militants propose that India allow the occupied territory to be under a UN multinational force as a UN protectorate.
