BHUBANESWAR: Janaki Ballav Patnaik, president of the provincial Congress (I) committee of the western Indian state of Orissa and former chief minister of the state, was arrested on May 1 from his residence here by the special squad of the state vigilance department.

The arrest was made in connection with a case registered against him on charges of corruption for alleged acquisition of properties disproportionate to his known sources of income,

Patnaik was, however, released on personal recognition bond by the investigating officer, immediately after the arrest.
