MEERUT: After the formation of the Green Brigade by Om Parkash Chautala former chief minister of Haryana and the recent formation of the Mulayam Singh Yadav Youth Brigade the Ajit Singh faction of the Janata Dal have decided to form a secular brigade so as to check the rise of communal forces in Uttar Pradesh.

This was announced by Jagat Singh newly appointed president of the western Uttar Pradesh Janata Dal (Ajit) here on Thursday. Talking to newsmen Jagat Singh said that there was a sense of insecurity amongst the minorities in the state since the coming to power of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP). “To keep a check on the communal forces unleashed by the ruling party it has been decided to create a secular brigade he added.

Asked about the role of this brigade Jagat Singh said that it would neutralize the communal forces right from the village level.

He further announced that the Janata Dal (Ajit) would stage a demonstration at Meerut on April 13 in protest against the anti-farmer policies of the state BJP government.

He charged that the BJP government has tied to hoodwink the farmers by raising the sugarcane price and at the same time hobnobbed with the sugar mill owners who got a stay against the price hike.

Similarly the decision to start new sugarcane purchase centers was stayed by the court and the government has done nothing.
