SRINAGAR: Mr K Doraiswamy, an Executive director of India Oil Corporation (IOC), was kidnapped by unidentified militants.

Mr Swamy, who had arrived in Srinagar along with two other officials June 27, was abducted while inspecting work on the storage depot of IOC, which is under construction at Zewan, 12km from here.

It appears that the abductors had prior information about the arrival of Mr Swamy for though he was accompanied by five other [OF officials, they (militants) asked only for the “director”. While Mr. Swamy was being taken away, the other officials looked on helplessly. The armed militants, said to be six in to kill any foot, took Mr. Swamy away in one of the two taxis which the IOC officials had hired for themselves. They also deflated the tires of the other taxi.

No militant outfit has so far claimed responsibility for the abduction.

Mr Swamy is the third non-local high official kidnapped by Kashmiri militants since armed insurgency began here. Prof. Mushir-Ul-Haq, vice-chancellor of Kashmir University, and Mr H.L.Khera, general manager of the HMI Waten factory, were shot dead after their abduction last year.

Official spokesman, who withheld the name of the abducted IOC official and all details of the incident, said that efforts were on to trace him.

The JKLF told a journalist here that he would remain with them that he was an intelligence agent was probed. The Israeli reportedly told the journalist that the JKLF militants were looking after him well.

Meanwhile, four persons were killed and four injured indifferent incidents in the Valley during the last 24 hours.

The official spokesman said that two militants were killed and four persons injured when a grenade, which one of the militants was carrying in his pocket, exploded. Unidentified gunner shot dead one Noor Mohammad at Ahmed Nagar in the deceased was an activist of the JKLF and had been kidnapped on Saturday last. But the JKLF has not confirmed this.
