WASHINGTON: An international conference on Punjab at the Tum of 21st Century” will be held in Washington, D.C, on June 2930, The conference which is being sponsored by the Academy of Punjab in North America, the International Sikh Heritage Association, and the Punjabi Heritage Association, will deliberate on the status of the Punjabi language in both Pakistani and Indian parts of Punjab. Papers will be read on old and modem Punjabi literature and culture. Writers, scholars and artists from Pakistan, India, the United States and Canada will participate. All Conference sessions will take place at the American University, Washington, D.C.
On June 29 prominent scholar Dr. Hassan Gardezi will deliver the keynote address on “Sultan Bahu on Religious Puritans.” It will be followed by a discussion on” History & Culture of Contemporary Punjab” with Dr. Manzur Ejaz acting as moderator. The participants include Dr. Rishpal Singh Ujla, Irfan Malik, Dr. Sohinderbir Bir, and Nazir Chaudhry.
Another session on “Women and Minorities in Punjabi Culture” will be moderated by Mr. Earnest Gulab. Ms. Hardeep Mann, Dr. Jaspal Singh, Harbhajan Singh Rattan, Khalid Mahmood and Alfreda Gill will make presentations at this session.
The same evening a cultural program and ‘kayi Darbar (Mushaera) y’ has also been organized on this occasion. Among the poets who will be reciting their Punjabi poetry are included Harbhajan Singh Rattan (Delhi), Sohinder Bir Qallandhar) Giani Kamail Singh, Harjap Singh, Hameed Dess, Hardev Artist, Irfan Malik, Kanwal Roop Phe, Ravinder Singh Sehra, Dr. Rist! Singh, Alamoon Emen,Sukhpal Singh Senhgara, Tassawar Ibraz Anwara, T.S. Gill, Gurdeep Singh and Salvas ASSi.
