HARARE Reuter: Preparation for a non- aligned summit opening Monday have become bogged down in internal bickering as Third World leaders converge on the Zimbabwean capital.
Conference sources said foreign ministers seeking consensus on global issues ranging from Wicaragua to Namibia (south West Africa) failed to complete preparatory work in the allotted two days and scheduled further sessions.
The sources said only 22 of the more than 50 ministers working on draft declarations examining the world political and economic situation had spoken when the decision to adjourn was taken.
The declaration will be examined by the non-aligned leaders during the summit the eighth triennial meeting of a movement born 25 years ago Monday in the Yugoslav capital of Belgrade.
First leader to arrive of the diverse group which embraces states as far apart as Bolivia and Bhutan was Vanuatu Prime Minister Hayde Lini.
Most of the 40 to 50 other heads of state or government expected are due here today led by outgoing chairman Rajiv Gandhi of India and security is intense in and around Harare.
