Courtesy: The Province Vancouver’s Sikh community is being warned not to help police in the Air India probe.
Two sources both community newspaper editors who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of being targeted by militants told The Province that word is being circulated in some Sikh Gurdwaras that anyone who talks will be branded a” Gandhi a Punjabi word meaning traitor. “They are threatening quite a bit, said one editor. “They are threatening indirectly. They are saying, “Let up see who the gather is another editor said those who do speak out “will become hero’s in the community because the whole community is getting the blame for the work of a handful of people who did this.”
RCMP Sgt. Peter Montague said anyone who helps police break the case will also become a national and international hero.
He said potential informants should not be cowed by threats because police have sound methods of protecting Witnesses.
Montague also said the RCMP have received 30 tips after offering a $1 million reward last month for evidence leading to the prosecution of those responsible for the Air India bombing.
