NEW DELHE: India and China have expressed their “determination” for an early settlement of the border question and decided to take concrete steps to improve trade prospects sources said.

These measures to further push the I exchanges official process of normalization of relations between the two countries were decided at the recently concluded first meeting of the Sino Indian Joint Working Group on the border issue.

The meeting laid down ground rules for settling the 30 year old border tangle and also agreed on general lines on which future work should progress in the further meetings of the group.

The working group discussed ‘ways and means to preserve peace and tranquility in border areas, It was also agreed to hold periodic consultations between the foreign office officials of the two sides to discuss not only bilateral matters, but also review the international situation.
