CHANDIGARH: Indian intelligence agencies and Akali leaders have separately launched propaganda barrages on Dr.Sohan Singh who is in police custody these days. He has been lodged in a forest rest house at Seonk village in Ropar district under heavy police security, in bits and pieces news items are finding their way into newspapers suggesting that Indian authorities are taking great care of Dr.Sohan Singh’s physical welfare. He is served with chicken every day and there are sufficient stocks of fruits for him in the makeshift jail.
Akalis, on their pack, are spreading rumors through their contacts in the media that Dr.Sohan Singh is being groomed into launching a parallel Akali Dal. S.G.P.C. Chief Gurcharan Singh Tohra dubbed Dr.Sohan Singh as an “international cat” (an intelligence agent of the Indian government) following reports government sponsored reports in the media that Dr.Sohan Singh had issued a broadside against Akalis in the Course of his police interrogation.
Meanwhile, no relations of Dr.Sohan Singh have been allowed to meet him in jail. This denial is contrary to the provisions of the jail manual; The Punjab government took no notice of a request received in writing from Tejwant Singh, one of Dr, Sohan Singh’s sons, for a meeting.
