MADRAS: The Indian Cricket team practicing here since June 21 will leave for Colombo on July 9 to take on the Sn Lanka team, “Sri Lanka is a well-balanced side with a few newcomers in their team and we cannot afford to take them lightly,” Indian cricket team captain Mohammad Azharuddin said here June 21.

“The Lankan team is brimming with confidence especially after their good showing against New Zealand, England and Australia recently, “Azharuddin told reporters at the end of the day’s physical conditioning program.

Ajit Wadekar, cricket manager of the Indian team said the camp should have been for three weeks instead of two weeks.

“The players could not have had the required match practice as the cricket season was only beginning “and that is why I have to start from scratch.”

Both Azharuddin and Wadekar said the hot and humid weather of Madras was similar to that of Sn Lanka’s and hoped the players would gradually get adjusted to the conditions.

Wadekar said the Indian players were fall of confidence and were fit and fine. “We would be playing positive cricket,” he said. All the players, including the four stand boys, have joined the camp.
