NEW DELHI: In his latest book Indian journalist Kuldip Nayar alleges Prime Minister Narasimha Rao’s involvement in former Prime Minister V.P. Singhs son Ajaya Singh in connection with secret account in a bank or St Kitts is land.

Nayar’s book India House refers 0 the “sixth account” with reference to the Bofors kickback scandal and says that five account holders have been accounted for the sixth one remains elusive.

He says: “I did not last long enough in London (as Indian ambassador to the U.K.) to know the fate of the sixth account. The bank accounts in the Caribbean island-in the name of V.P. Singhs son Ajaya Singh also a beneficiary was a plant. Ajaya Singhs application filed with the high commission (in London) for an extension of his passport he was then living in London was sent for by the then minister of state KK-Tewary.

It was alleged that Ajayas signature was lifted from the application forged and used in the St Kitts count. It was apparent that no minister however powerful could have done this on his own certain higher-ups must have been involved at some stage. The signature was however authenticated by Narasimha Rao then foreign minister who said after the death of Rajiv Gandhi that he did i at his bidding. One does not know why V.P-Singh and his party have not pursued this sensational allegation since Bofors and other candals had been their high priority items.”
