Islamabad: Pakistan President Farooq Ahmed Leghari warned India against deploying missile that could carry nuclear weapons and said that Pakistan was being pushed into a regional arms race it didn’t want to enter. “This missile race that they (India) are starting on the subcontinent could be expensive and dangerous,” President Leghari said. Charging the world community with “pushing” Islamabad into a missile race by not preventing New Delhi from developing Prithvi missile, which he claimed was “Pakistan specify,” and te long range Agni missile.

“Serial production of Prithvi missiles will amount to their deployment and any conflagration can be very dangerous for both the countries” Leghari told members of the foreign correspondents’ association here during an exclusive 90minute chat. Asked as to what steps Pakistan was taking to counter the so-called missile threat from India, the President said “Pakistan will do whatever is necessary to safeguard its security needs, we have several means to counter the Indian threat,” he did not elaborate.
