SRINAGAR(PTI): Militancy related violence took 20 lives in the Kashmir valley overnight June 14 as the army and the paramilitary forces launched the biggest ever joint operation in a bid to stabilize the situation for holding elections in the insurgencvnidden state by yearend.

The state administration has also initiated a move to make itself more responsive and effective to the need of the people.

With two Intelligence Bureau Officers already in their captivity since June 2, militants abducted Zaftar Ahmad, manager Oslun civil project at Zugiyar on Baramulla UCIW road on Monday. One of hate abducted, Prof.Fazli, a university teacher retumed home unharmed on Tuesday after four days of captivity.

Militants snapped a vital communication link on Tuesday when they blasted the Athoora Baramulla concrete bridge in Baramullah district, official reports received here said.

Five militants were killed at Sodori Machil near Lock in an encounter with the army troops on Tuesday, highly placed official sources said.

Another militant identified as “Palay Khan” was killed by fellow militants at Takiya Bahramshah in south Kashmir, the Source said.

One more civilian, who was injured in a grenade attack at Badshah Chowk on Monday, died in the hospital on Tuesday, the source said.
