NEW DELHI, India, Reuter India’s bid to host the Common wealth Games in 1994 has been approved at Cabinet level and sports officials are confident it will succeed, the sports authorities of India said on Friday.
Minister of State for sports Margaret Alva will make India’s formal offer to stage the games at a meeting in London on Monday.
‘An Indian Olympic Association official said that now the government had lent its weight to the bid, “We have enough time to plan and secure the votes”.
India’s rivals for the November, 1994 Games are Cardiff in Wales and the Canadian City of Victoria. The choice will be announced at the Seoul Olympic Games in September.
