United Nations, (PTI) Indian ambassador to the United Nations CR Gharekhan will lead a delegation of senior UN officials to the second plenary session of the convention for a democratic South Africa beginning in Johannesburg May 15.

The UN and many regional Organisations are attending the two-day conference as observers. The meeting will focus on the issue of transitional arrangement to form a body to draft a constitution. It will also review the work of five groups established by the first conference to go into the various aspects of setting up a democratic non-racial society in South Africa,

The UN had attended the first conference on December 20 and a 21asan observer, About20groups representing various shades of opinions had participated in the discussions. UN secretary general Boutros Boutros Ghali nominated. Gharekhan, a very senior diplomat in the world body, to lead the delegation in view of the importance that the world attaches to the negotiating process for a democratic South Africa.
