MOHALI: India has decided to raise 10 more battalions comprising 10,000 armed men in the next two years to be positioned in Punjab, Punjab police chief K.P.S.Gill said here early this week. Speaking at a function of police commandos here, Gill said that the new battalions would be known as India Reserve Force. Half of the expenditure on raising the new forces would be meet by the Indian central government and the half by the Punjab slate government, he said. Gill revealed that 100 companies with 16000 men of the Central Reserve Police Force had been withdrawn from Punjab by the Indian government for deployment on election duties in the four states. Gill claimed that Sikh militancy would be completely eliminated in the next six months.
