NEW DELHI: Indian Muslim religious leader the Imam of Jama Masjid Syed Abdullah Bukhari declared on Friday that he would support the Janata Dal and left parties in the May elections.
Addressing reporters here Bukhari said his decision to support the Janata Dal should not however be taken as a “Fatwa” (religious decree) and added he had taken his decision as a “sewak” (servant) of the people.
Bukhari in his written message to the people said “I appeal to all my Muslim brethren and people belonging to the oppressed classes to vote for the Janata Dal and not allow their votes to be divided and go waste”
