NEW DELHI (PTI): Chief Minister of the Eastern Indian state of Bihar Laloo Prasad Yadav, Aug.23 said 62 people died in Patna recently after consuming illicit liquor and not of some mysterious disease as reported,

Talking to news men here, Yadav said the medical reports had revealed that the deaths were caused due to illicit liquor and the state government had initiated action to * track the culprits.

The chief minister said that the government had taken steps to keep surveillance on sale of illicit liquor.

Meanwhile, the union health ministry dispatched a team of medical experts to Patna to study the situation in the Bihar capital.

The union minister of state for industries Krishna Ehahi, a member of the lower house of the Indian parliament from Gidih, Bihar, said that the experts would submit a report to the union health minister M.L.Fotedar after their visit.

The minister said the sanitary conditions in the state capital had deteriorated as a result of the incompetence of the civic authorities.
