NEW YORK, NY: Sikhs in the United States are increasingly spending the New Year’s Eve listening to devotional kirtan darbars in their Gurdwaras rather than in other not so divine pursuits

For many the 31st is now a day of reaffirming their religious ties, quite in trend with the change with the latest changes seen in American society.

New Yorker’s gathered at the Sikh Cultural Society in Richmond Hill to attend the kirtan darbar which featured such prominent kirianias as Bhai Darshan Singh, Bhai Sunjit Singh, Bhai Nirmal Singh, Bhai Raghbir Singh, and Bhai Sadhu ‘Singh

At the Singh Sabha of New York, Bhai Surjit Singh and Bhai Dalip Singh rendered kirtan at the New Year’s Eve. Sardar Balbir Singh secretary of the organization and Swinder Singh Joshen addressed the congregation. In this address Joshen said that the last year had been one of trials and tribulations for the Sikh nation. He hoped that the New Year would be better for the community.

The Sikh Center of New York also held a kirtan darbar on the 31st kirtan was rendered by Bhai Raghbir Singh and Giani Amrit Pal Singh. The dhadi jatha of Bhai Balbir Singh and Gurdial Singh also gave a performance

Sri Guru Singh Sabha in New Jersey commemorated the New Year’s Eve with a kavi darbar at which Dr. Satwars Kaur Dhamoon, Davinder Kaur, Surinder Singh, Sohan Singh Colotia, Harbhajan Singh Gill, and Sukhbir Singh, recited the poems

The Garden State Sikh Association in Bridge-water, NJ head a diwan in which Kirtan was rendered by Bhai Sadhu Singh and Bhai Darshan Singh.

The Sikh Foundation of Virginia commemorated the New Year’s eve with a kirtan darbar at which Giani Jaguar Singh, Bibi Amrit Kaur and Giant Kuldeep Singh Deep as well as jathas of the ladies and children of the society rendered the divine hymns Giant Sardul Singh Bagi performed the Katha, His scholarship was well received by the sangat.
