PATIALA: Indian intelligence agencies first contacted certain Chandigarh-based correspondents of national English language newspapers with a plant that Bhai Sukhdev Singh Babbar had gone in for second marriage with on Jawahar Kaur and that the couple had a three year old son as well but no correspondent agreed to put out the unverified story. It was then that the agencies approached a newly recruited woman reporter of Punjabi Tribune who readily agreed to send the story to her newspaper which is managed by Punjabs Arya Samaj lobby. The newspaper is edited by a south Indian Brahman who a few days earlier had editorially hailed the killing of Bhai Gurjant Singh Budhsinghwala by the Indian security forces It was the first story sent by the lo-al woman reporter to the Punjabi Tribune. Bibi Jawahar Kaur has reportedly denied the story as a total fabrication. She is in police custody. She also stated that Bhai Sukhdev Singh was her brother.
The news published in Indian newspaper stated as under that Jawahar Kaur told the police that she was neither religiously nor legally wedded to the slain Babbar Khalsa International Chief but was living with him as his wife since 1986. She said she had a three-year-old son from him.
She further disclosed that Sukhdev Singh had constructed for her a house called “white house” in urban estate a locality in the town.
Babbar was living under a fake name of Jasmer Singh Sandhu a government contractor with her in the “white house” which had several modern amenities.
Police said that besides the “white house” in Patiala Babbar had a “pink house” in Rajpura and another building was purchased by him in the local mode] town area for Rs.9.85 lakhs
Both the houses were being used as meeting place and hideouts for the Babbar militants police said.
Sukhdev Singh had also managed to obtain from the government departments an identity card and a driving license in the name of Jasmer Singh Sandhu.
