SRINAGAR; Frustrated by their dwindling public support the Hizbul Mujahideen in the Kulgam area of Anantnag district has begun blaming it all on the dormant’ Communists as three young activists of the CPM were tortured to death here last week.

Bashir Ahmed Wani an employees’ leader and Ahmadullah Ganaila teacher of Humshalibugh village and Mohamad Yusuf Lone of Harijan village were kidnapped by the Hizbul militants last week from their homes in simultaneous raids. The fourth CPM activist of Katpora targeted for kidnapping however escaped to Srinagar with public help and active support of some converted former militants. Last week bodies of all the three ‘Communist’ with severe torture marks were thrown in the neighboring town ship of Yaripora about 60 km from here. According to some eyewitnesses who have since fled the area to Srinagar militants had used burning sharp-edged weapons to inflict deep cuts on bodies all the three. Eyes of Bashir were gouged and! all of them were killed with firearms after a long torture session. A young woman seeking anonymity said who are still in the village Tran out of the town following my father who was their prime target and boarded a horscart the woman bidding her face it burqa heard the conversation between the driver and a Jamat-e-Islamic passenger which confirmed her worst fears of her father being target of Hizbul Mujahideen. About a fortnight ago the Hizbul Mujahideen militants had killed a prominent leader of the CPM Ali Mohamad Dar near Pampore. He was accused of being in contact with Mr.Tarigami the CPM state secretary for reviving the political set up in the Kashmir valley. Dar was dragged out of his house and shot dead.
