NEW DELHI: The 10th Himalayan Rally will be run from November § to 8 over a course approximately 2000 km long. It will begin and end in Delhi according to an official announcement.

Apart from the fact that last year the smooth running of the event was disturbed it has been the general feeling of the FISA officials and among competitors that the rally route should be shortened since this would make for tighter organization and better control.

‘The route has been divided into four legs. Leg one will be 450 km long. Starting off from Delhi, it moves via the Alwar region, skirts the tiger reserve of Siriska in Rajasthan, travels dusty roads and low hills before terminating in Delhi.

Leg two moves up narrow and twisting roads up to the highest point of Haridpura (9500 feet) with sheer drops on one side them via the peach growing arca of Rajghar, towards picturesque Chail (which boast of the highest cricket ground in the world) and ends up at Shimla% Leg three sets off north east from Shimla towards Narkanda passes vast areas of apple orchards and deodhar forests to group at Solan breweries, moving on through excellent rally competitive sections of the mountains to terminate at Shimla. The rally cars will race out of Shimla in leg four via the minisafari park being set up by the Himachal Pradesh Government at Renuka Lake and head for the flag in at Delhi.

The curtailed run will be welcomed as it will prove economical for the participants and make for better services facilities, which in no way detracting from the character of the rally which has found a place in the international calendar.
