WASHINGTON, DC: The House of Representatives adopted Congressman Wally Herger’s (R Rio Oso) legislation to improve federal firefighting capabilities on federal lands. “I’m very excited that my colleagues in the House have decided to take this important step towards providing better preparation for wild fire disasters,” Herger said. “I am urging the Senate to act on this legislation as ‘quickly as possible.”:

Herger’s legislation would increase opportunities for public input and comment on the effective ness of the federal government’s forest fire prevention measures. “I believe the fires of 1987made it evident that there is a need for increased coordination among local, state and federal officials in responding to forest fire emergencies,” Herger noted. “This legislation would fulfill this need and hopefully prevent such devastating fires from getting so far out of con troll in the future.”
