YUBA CITY: The Sikh community of Yuba City celebrated the 29Ist birthday of Khalsa Panth at Gurdwara Tierra Buena on Saturday April 7, 1990.

On this occasion the mayor of San Francisco Mr. Art Agnos, accompanied by Mr. Darshan Singh Chairman of parking authority of the city, came here to congratulate the Sikh nation on its birthday and to thank them for their timely help during the devastation caused by the earthquake in the Bay Area. The mayor praised the generosity of the Sikhs in extending helping hand at that juncture, Mr. Agnos told the congregation that the Sikhs inspite of many hurdles and problems in traveling to the city. The sangat was touched by his feelings when the mayor declared that he was deeply grateful for this timely help and the people of San Francisco will never forget it.

Bhai Tejinder Singh Raipur a member of the Panthic panel, called upon the audience to follow the principles of Sikhism as laid down by Guru Gobind Singh Ji. He appealed to the Sikhs, residing abroad to support the independence movement, launched by the Sikh nation in Punjab.

Earlier S. Didar Singh Bains ex-president WSO (international) introduced the guests to the sangat. He also welcomed. The mayor of San Francisco and his party. He specially thanked S. Darshan Singh for his efforts to serve the Sikh community in California State.

S Harbajhan Singh Gill vice president WSO (East) told the Sangat of the efforts being made by Sikh Youth Federation and WSO East to fight the cases of Dr. Birk and his other colleagues. He also spoke of their attempt to help the young Sikhs to get political asylum in USA. Mr. Gill introduced S. Sukhwinder Singh who was released on bond, after completing their term of imprisonment in the case of Bhajan Lal’s murder conspiracy case. The sangat greeted him with the slogan of Bole So Nihal Sat Siri Akal.

Mr, Art Agnos and S. Darshan Singh were honored by S. Didar Singh Bains and Santirpal Singh. In return the mayor presented a plaque to S. Didar Singh Bains and head priest in recognition of their help to earthquake victims. Earlier the sheriff Roy Witker and Supervisor Tom Priffer appealed to the Sikhs to support them in the coming elections.

  1. Dilbagh Singh Bains and his family were blessed by the Guru to make Sewa of this historic occasion. Bains family also contributed $500.00 to the WSN on this occasion.
