NEW YORK: The hearing in the extradition proceedings against AISSF leaders, Ranjit Singh Gill and Sukhwinder Singh Sandhu was adjourned to November 2, 1987 by the trial judge, Mr. Hedge. The hearing was scheduled for August 24, 1987. The defense attorney, Mary Pike had earlier sought the adjournment to enable her to prepare the case. The adjournment was initially declined on the ground that no formal application was moved to that effect, She, then, filed: a, Writ, of, Mandamus and Habeas corpus with the District Magistrate who referred the application back to the trial judge.

The trial judge not only granted adjournment but also directed the Indian authorities to supply the defense council a copy of the alleged confessions of Sukhdev Singh on the basis of which cases against Ranjit and Sukhdev were Registered. It is surprising that alleged confession was made by Sukhdev Singh three months after his arrest.
