CHANDIGARH (PTI): The Haryana police on June 17 arrested five men in connection with the kidnapping and murder of M.L.Manchanda officiating station director of all India Radio Patiala on May 26.

Gurmail Singh one of the five accused in the incident was arrested by the police from a relative’s house in Baragaon village of Karnal district Tuesday night police sources said.

The interrogation of Gurmel Singh who drove the car from which Manchanda was kidnapped revealed a host of vital leads. The car used in the crime was recovered near Boh village in Ambala district and at Gurmail’s insistence the police raided the farm house of Ram Singh and Gurnam Singh in village Manchanda under Ambala Sadar police station.

One AK-47 rifle one AK-S6nifle three magazines and 25 KGS of explosives were seized from the farmhouse and four persons were arrested from the village for Interrogation.

Police said that Amrik Singh Kauli of the Babbar Khalsa militant outfit who masterminded the kidnapping and murder of Manchanda has already been killed in an encounter near Chandigarh.

Among the other four militants actually involved in the incident two have been nabbed while two other militants were still at large.

TOKYO (PTI): India on June 24 made it clear that it would not sign the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and instead proposed a time-bound elimination of all nuclear weapons and a commitment by nuclear threshold states not to make atom bomb.
