ROCKVILLE, Maryland: On Sunday, August 16, 1987, Guru Gobind Singh Foundation will commemorate the 1st “barsi” of Sirdar Kapur Singh, who departed for his heavenly abode on August 13, 1986. Sirdar Kapur Singh, a veteran Akali leader and a former member of Parliament, was the only Sikh to be designated as the National Professor of Sikhism. He was educated at Cambridge University in England, and became an ICS officer at the time when hardly any Sikh held such a prestigious position at the national level.

Sirdar Kapur Singh never sacrificed the Sikh principles and as a political leader he evinced great courage and fearlessness in living by those principles. He was the principal author of the Anandpur Sahib Resolution, which defined the political aspirations of the Sikh nation.

Dr. Balwant Singh of Bucknell University (presently on sabatical leave in London) will speak on the life and works of this great son of Punjab. Kirtan will be performed by the Ragi Jatha of Bhai Jagjit Singh Kanwal of Kotkapura, Punjab.

Please come and join us in paying homage to this noble personality who dedicated his entire

life in service of the Sikh Panth. For more information please call: Dr. Surjit Kaur, Secretary, (703) 5607387 or S. Rajwant Singh, Asst. Secretary (301) 5729179.
