AMRITSAR, Punjab, India: Gunmen Sunday opened fire on a Hindu wedding party. Killing the bridegroom and three other people, police said.

Four Sikh gunmen invaded the party near the town of Kapurthala, about 43 miles north of this Sikh holy city, said police.

Violence in Punjab has been blamed for more than 170 slayings in the northern state this year.

On Saturday, police said gunmen shot and killed six members of a Sikh family and two visitors because the head of the family objected to his 20yearold daughter marrying a freedom fighter.

The assailants then kidnapped the daughter, who was still missing Sunday, said police in Khalahra, a village 17 miles north of Amritsar.
