CHANDIGARH: Discerning malafide on the part of the police in booking at Ludhiana based colonizer, Mr Kuldip Singh Ghai, on the charge Of rape in 1994, the Punjab govern fit has withdrawn the case against him which was being heard in court of District and Sessions Judge here.

 The judge relied on the affidavits filed by the alleged rape victim Ms. Mohinder Kaur before the Crime and Intelligence branch officials that she had not been raped by Mr. Ghai and had filed the complaint under influence of local police officers.

The colonizer had alleged before the Punjab and Haryana High Court earlier seeking quashing of the FIR that DSP Amrit Singh, who was considered close to the then SSP, Mr. Sumedh Singh Saini, had been demanding free Of cost a plot measuring 500 s q yards valued at Rs25 lakh On the refusal of the colonizer the police initially got him implicated in a “fraud” case in which it was alleged that he find forged power of attorney of Urmila and Promila, based in Delhi owning a plot (0f13000sq yards, The police went on to implicate the daughter-in-law and wife of Mr, Ghai in the alleged fraud on the charge of impersonation.

Later, it was revealed that the power of attorney of the prime land purchased by, Mr. Ghai was forged by ‘one Mr. Niranjan Singh who had sold the same to the colonizer and a number of others. Once the high court quashed the case of impersonation after the Crime branch arrested real impersonators Maya Devi and Raj Rani, the Ludhiana police headed by SSP Sumedh Singh Saini involved the colonizer in a rape case. The prosecutrix Ms, Mohinder Kaur had, during the inquiry by the, crime branch, failed to recognize her “tormentor” in an identification parade. Ghai told this correspondent that after the District and Sessions Judge acquitted him from the rape charge on November 8, the Ludhiana police on: the same day registered ’a fresh FIR accusing him of yet another forgery in a land deal.

He alleged that police had unlawfully stopped construction activity at a shopping complex being made at Ludhiana by his firm.
