CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Government will write to leaders of various Akali factions inviting them to send their representatives on the grievances being constituted in the State.

An indication to this effect was given by Balmuk and Sharma, Minister for Grievances; Sharma said although district grievances committee constituted a couple of months ago included representatives from various Akali factions, only the Akali Dal (Kabul) had nominated its representatives. Those from the Akali Dal (Badal) and Dal (Mann) have also been invited but there had been no response, The Minister took note of the fact that a new Akali Dal headed by Bhai Manjit Singh had also come into being.

The Government would soon write to this faction as also those headed by Parkash Singh Badal and Simranjit Singh Mann which had taken part in the recent municipal elections, to send their representatives to the grievances committees. The committees, he pointed out, were an important part of the democratic set-up restored in Punjab after a long spell of Presidents rule.

The Minister also said that there were about 900 complaints pending with the district grievances committees at present. The maximum number of complaints was in Faridkot district. Most of the complaints related to developmental schemes. There were complaints regarding police excesses also.
