CANDIGARH, India: Ignoring S.G.P.C.’s concern and refusal to permit the government to construct a corridor around the Golden Temple Complex, the Punjab government has decided to move ahead speedily to complete this project with the sanctioned budget of Rs. 100 corers. This decision to take up this project on war footing was taken at a high power meeting held at Chandigarh. The meeting which was presided over by Punjab Governor, S.S. Ray, was attended by Union Minister of State for Home, Mr. Chittambrum. All the senior officers including its advisor J.B. Rebeiro, Police Chief, K.P.S. Gill and Financial Commissioner Home, S.L. Kapur were present.
The meeting took place on May 26, 1988. The Union Home Minister also discussed the Punjab situation before flying back to Delhi.
