WASHINGTON, Dec, 10, Reuter: Mikhail Gorbachey stopped his motorcade to go for an unscheduled walk on Thurs- day, much to the surprise of a ‘crowd waiting only for a glimpse ‘Of his car. Gorbachev, accompanied by Vice-President George Bush, ordered his 14-car motorcade stopped 50 that he could go and shake hands before heading to the White House and a final round of summit talks with President Ronald Reagan. When he got to the White House, Reagan joked: “I thought you’d gone home”, a reference to the unscheduled stop and to a 90- minute delay to their official starting time.

Both Gorbachey and Bush got Out of Gorbachev’s Soviet Zil Lim- Ousine and began shaking hands with members of a crowd behind wooden barriers, Gorbachev – shook hands as people gasped and squealed. The Soviet leader’s KGB security contingent rushed to catch up and form a protective cluster around him: Bat he continued to ‘shake hands, Gorbachey and Bush waved to the crowd before getting back in the car. “The man is a public relations Benius”, one woman said. ‘The brief stop was the only time Gorbachev has mixed with ordinary Americans in his three-day visit, which has seen him mostly confined to the White House or the Soviet Embassy.
