GLEN ROCK, NJ: A bhog of the Akhand Path, the continuous recitation of Guru Granth Sahib, was held at the Sri Guru Singh Sabha in the memory of the innocent Sikh students who were massacred in Bidar Karnataka recently.

Young children recited the holy Gurbani at the function which was jointly organized by the Sikh Women’s International Association (SWIO) the Sikh youth of New Jersey and the management of the Singh Sabha Gurdwara.

  1. Bhupinder Singh, a businessman, spoke on the occasion as did S. Sukhbir Singh who spoke on behalf of the Sikh youth. Dr. Satwant Kaur Dhamoon, president of the SW10 also addressed the congregation. The following resolution was adopted by the Congregation:
  2. Whereas scores of students of Engineering College and other professional colleges have been brutally murdered in Bidar, Karanataka, India on September 14-16, 1988 as a result of premeditated plan of the Shiv Sena (a militant Hindu communal organization) and with the connivance of the police.

2, Whereas hundreds of students have been ban injured.

  1. Whereas hundreds of students are still missing,
  2. Whereas properties worth millions of dollars belonging to the Sikhs have been destroyed, looted and vandalized. All this with the knowledge approval and supervision of the local and central law and order authorities,
  3. Whereas even the news of this massacre was not published but rather suppressed for weeks,
  4. Whereas as of this date not even a single culprit has been punished,
  5. Whereas this entire operation was a total repetition of November 1984 Holocaust of Sikhs,
  6. Whereas the lame excuse of Sikh students not contributing to the majority’s “idol worship” function was totally out of question in a democratic country.

BE IT RESOLVED THAT:

The entire Sikh Nation has been put to shock and trauma once again. We all request the President of the United States and others in authority to DEMAND an immediate stop to the barbaric activities in a so called democratic country of India and to conduct an inquiry and punish the guilty. An assurances should be given to the free world that such happenings will not recurr and the Press should be given full freedom to cover such news as the free people in the rest of the world have this BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS to know what is happening to their fellow bro hers.
