CHANDIGARH: The Election Commission has postponed the Gidderbaha by-election, scheduled to be held on May 27, to June 3, as the Congress party has sought another week to file a detailed reply to the showcase notice served on the party president, P.V. Narasimha Rao.
The commission has observed that the violations of the election code by the Congress with a view to influence the minds of the electors, in favor of its candidate, had vitiated the purity and fairness of the election process in the Gidderbaha constituency. The commission has ruled that a poll conducted in these circumstances, as scheduled, on May 27, may not reflect the true and unbiased choice of the electorate.
