NEW DELHI: United Nations Secretary General, Boutros Boutros-Ghali, Wednesday decided to pay an unscheduled visit to Pakistan from Friday to hammer out an agreement with rebel groups there to have an interim arrangement in Afghanistan following ouster of president Najibullah.
Ghali discussed latest situation in Afghanistan with foreign secretary, J.N Dixit. He will hold i depth discussions on conflict situation with premier Rao.
An External Affairs ministry said that Ghali was in touch with his special envoy, Benon Sevan, in Kabul on future of Najib whom a dominant rebel group was not allowing to leave Afghanistan.
Growing peace-keeping role of world body and need to democrat sate its structures were discussed by Ghali during his visit.
