NEW DELHI: Former Chief of Army staff, Gen O P Malhotra, was Dec 14 appointed governor of Punjab in a major reshuffle under which four states and two union territories will have new governors and Lt Governors,
Veerendra Verma, who was earlier this year appointed governor of Punjab, has been shifted to Himachal Pradesh, while Basavaiah Rachiah has been transferred from Himachal Pradesh to Kerala.
Gujarat Governor, Mahipal Shastri’s resignation has been accepted and he has been succeeded by present Kerala Governor, Dr Sarup Singh, according to a Rashtrapati Bhawan (Presidential House) communique.
Markandev Singh, a former police officer, has been appointed Lt Governor of Delhi in place of air chief marshal (retd) Arjan Singh whose resignation has been accepted.
The new Lt Governor of Pondicherry will be Dr Har Sarup Singh, an agricultural economist and a former member of the planning commission.
Tamil Nadu Governor, Sujit Singh Barnala, has been asked to hold additional charge of Lt Governor of Anadaman and Nicobar Islands during the absence on leave of Lt Gen R S Dayal (retd).
