‘CHANDIGARH: General Lakhwinder Singh of the “Khalistan” Guerrilla Force was Killed 16 freedom fighters and their hosts arrested while the police claimed to have recovered detonators and explosive powder during the past 24 hours in Punjab.

A report from Amritsar said the security forces gunned down one freedom fighters in an alleged encounter at the Chattiwind canal bridge under Amritsar Sadar police station last night.

According to the usual police story three freedom fighters when ‘ordered to halt, started firing on the naka party of the CRPF. In the ‘exchange of fire one of the three freedom fighters was killed on the spot.

The two companions of the deceased however, escaped. The; police planted one 315 bore pistol along with three cartridges on the Killed person. He was identified later as Lakhwinder Singh alias Lakha.

Superintendent of Police (Detective) Rajinder Singh told newsmen today that Lakha was wanted in six cases of murder, besides several robberies.

The SP said the district police arrested four well known freedom fighters including “B” category Jaspal Singh, from Udham Singh Nagar.

The police planted an HE36 hand grenade on Jaspal Singh.

‘The other three freedom fighters were identified as Nishan Singh, Surinder Singh and Baaz Singh. The police claimed to have recovered a single barrel gun a 12 bore pistol and a double barrel gun from them.

A report from Jalandhar said the police yesterday recovered eight detonators and about 1 kg of explosive powder from another person in the Goraya police station area.

Police sources identified the accused as Balwinder Singh, a resident of Daleqwal village under Goraya police station. He has been arrested.

Another report from Jalandhar said a young farmer Mr. Harjinder Singh, was shot at and wounded by three masked gunmen near Shikhupur village under Nawanshahr police station last night.
