NEW DELHI: Former Union Minister and Lok Sabha Speaker Gurdial Singh Dhillon died at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here following cardiac arrest.
“The 77 year old veteran Congress leader who also had a stint as India’s high commissioner to Canada is survived by his wife and a son.
A freedom fighter Mr. Dhillon had undergone coronary surgery on Tuesday and had been progressing well. However his Condition deteriorated this afternoon and the end came around 1430 hrs.
Mr. Dhillons body was shifted to his residence this evening. A large number of political leaders and friends of the departed leader visited his residence and paid floral tribute to him.
President R. Venkataraman and other national leader expressed grief at the death of Mr. Dhillon.
“Meanwhile the Vice-President Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma expressed grief at the death of Mr. Dhillon.
In a message the Vice-President said the country had lost an eminent freedom fighter diplomat politician and a distinguished parliamentarian Lok Sabha Speaker Shivraj Patil said he was “deeply grieved on the passing away” of Dr. GS. Dhillon.
