SAN JOSE: A Multiethnic cultural celebration was held at the Le Baron Hotel on September 23, 1990, From the Indian community this event was organized by San Jose Attorney Mohinder S. Mann, and Santa Clara County Commissioner Annie Dandavatai. It was hosted by the various multiethnic groups that constitutes the very core of what makes up America. ‘Over three hundred people from all walks of life and background came together in their colorful native costumes and shared their traditional forms of entertainment.
Performing group included colorful and lively Bhangra Dance, Choreographed by Jatinder Dutt of Loknaach Performing Arts; Sitar and Tabla by Ustad Habib Khan, and Aushim Chaudhury; other native dancer’s performers included Japanese Folk Dancing, Vietnamese Classical Dance, Gospal Singers, Children of Cambodian Refugees, and many others.
Mann said that this program ‘was attended by almost every ethnic minority group, and was the first in our valley’s history to bring about such a culturally diverse group under one roof. He said we are thankful to Susan Hammer, and Santa Clara County Board of Supervisor Ron Gonzales in assisting US in achieving our group’s goal of Unity in Diversity.
Commissioner Dandavati, who was Mistress of Ceremony said that we feel this event was a turning point in our community’s political involvement in mainstream politics. We have finally achieved our goal in San Jose Bay area in taking our community into the mainstream politics. And she added, we did it such a style. As always, after the program we were asked by numerous political candidates for support from our community.
According to Hammer’s campaign the event was a total success. Hammer has been supported by the Indian Community in the San Jose Area.
