YUBA CITY: A fund raiser was organized for the World Sikh News in Yuba City on Saturday, April 17. Almost all the speakers lauded the newspaper for its reporting on the violation of human rights in Punjab and the atrocities committed by the security forces on Sikhs.

The main organizers of the fund raisers were the Sikh Youth of America and Bhai Gurmej Singh Gill. More than 100 Sikhs attended the function, held at the Smoga restaurant in Yuba City, S.Narinder Singh Somal started by introducing the World Sikh News and mentioned the circumstances which led to the birth of the paper and its role since then, He welcomed the supporters of the WSN and requested their help so that the paper could continue to perform the task of propagating the Sikh cause and make the voice of the Sikhs heard in the world.

The speakers at the function appreciated the need for a powerful media, Its absence has been one of the major disadvantages of the Sikhs community and because of which they had suffered.

Dr.Amazrjit Singh, spokesman of Panthik Committee appreciated the Sikh Youth of America for its support and its role in organizing the fund raiser, He expressed his happiness at the way in which the WSN had by its fearless reporting brought to the knowledge of the American public the plight of the Sikhs in Punjab.

Dr.Jasbir Singh Kang said that Sikhs are a small community and the Indian government has vast resources. It is difficult to fight the government’s might with bullets; the Sikhs should therefore change their tactics and adopt other means to achieve their independence. For this fight it is necessary that Sikhs should possess a powerful media. This is the mightiest weapon of the modern age, Dr. Balwinder Singh Malhi said that the Sikhs homeland was on fire, and when a person’s home is on fire he must cry for help. A dedicated newspaper is the best means of drawing the attention of the International community.

Sardar Gurmej Singh Gill welcomed the role of the Sikh Youth of America in organizing the fund raiser for the WSN. “The support of youth is essential to provide dynamism to any organization,” he said.

Some of the prominent persons who attended the fund raiser and provided enthusiastic support were Sardar Hardial Singh Dhatt, S.Mohinder Singh, Bhai Dhanna Singh, SJagroop Singh Atwal, S.Gurmeet Singh Gill and Bhai Tejinder Singh who also managed the stage.
