AMRITSAR: Four members of a family were among five persons shot dead in Amritsar district since last night.

Mr. C. Pal Singh, LG. (Border Range) said an unspecified number of gunmen forced their entry into a farmhouse at Bhure Naga! Village under Ram Das police station and opened fire from Chinese Ak47 assault rifles, killing four members of a family.

The victims were identified as Anant Ram, his son Onkar Nath, brother Hardayal Rai, and nephew Manoj Kumar.

A farmer Tejinder Singh was shot dead on the outskirts of Sarhali Mandan village under Sarhali police station yesterday.

Two freedom fighters were arrested following an encounter with a CRPF patrol party near Gandhi wind village under Chabbal police station last night.

The two were identified as Manjinder Singh and Sukhdey Singh of Sohal village. A .12 bore rifle, a country made pistol and 70 live cartridges of Chinese AK47 assault rifles were planted on them as usual and then shown as evidence.

Seven freedom fighters armed with Chinese AK47 assault rifles raided a village protection force picket in Samar village under Sri Hargobhindpur police station in Gurdaspur district last night and took away 10 self-loading rifles of 7,.62mm calibre from two volunteers of the picket at gunpoint.

According to a report, the freedom fighters did not face any resistance from the volunteers.

High volunteers of the force were absent from duty when the incident occurred.

 

CHANDIGARH: In other incidents an ex-serviceman, Jaswant Singh, was Killed at New Kot village in Gurdaspur district last night.

Gurdial Singh was shot dead at Cheema Bath village in Majitha police district last night.
