NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has sought the permission of the Punjab government to prosecute former Punjab Inspector General of Police D.S. Mohi, said to be close to former Union Communications Minister Sukh Ram, sources said last week. During a surprise raid at Mohi’s apple orchard at Bhunter in Kulu district, the CBI had found an AK5S6, two magazines and 40 cartridges. When contacted, sources in the CBI confirmed that a rifle along with two magazines and 40 cartridges had indeed been recovered and said that Mohi is set to be booked under the Arms Act.

The CBI sleuths raided Mohi’s premises after a tip off that Sukh Ram’s son Anil Sharma had dumped huge cash and valuables at Mohi’s premises on August 16 before going underground. The orchard of Sukh Ram is next to Mohi’s and it is alleged that information about the impending CBI raid on his farm had been leaked by the police to him. Kapu Sharma a DSP in the Himachal policy fused to accompany the CBI’s raiding party in Mandi on the ground that he was a relative of Anil Sharma. The CBI team waited for nearly 45 minutes before the SP could make alternative arrangements. But vital time was lost and it was later alleged that Sharma escaped with the cash stashed in the orchard.

Investigations revealed that the former police chief was close to Sukh Ram and therefore the CBI raided his house. D.S. Mohi, when contacted at his residence, admit ted that an AK 56 rifle had been recovered from his farm house near Kulu. However, he said it was issued to him by the Punjab Government along with security cover as he was on the hit list of militants having occupied sensitive posts. He said there was nothing wrong as many other threatened had been given this Weapons.
