From the love of God, Guru Nanak gave us

The Word,

to drown out souls

in the Supreme Name.

Guru Gobind Singh gave us the sword;

to defend what is right

and to know that good and evil are not one and the same,

On April 13, 1699,

a blessed date in the history,

the Guru asked for

the heads of the brave;

and cowards ran to their mothers

The five Pure Ones stayed and gave their lives to him; In a flash of sword,

the sheep were turned into lions,

And those who pledged, and took the Holy Nectar of sugar and water; Courage filled

their hearts and souls. And the five K’s He gave

told all of

the Birth of Pure,

and evil ran for shelter

from the battle cry of the Khalsa

And the world

was always to remember, On Vaisakhi

the roar of the

lion was heard,

This poem was the first prize in its category at the talent competition at Sti Guru Singh Sabha in NJ
