NEW DELHI: Veteran Janata Dal leader George Fernandes, who resigned from the party’s national executive and political affairs committee Tuesday, declared that he will not go back on his decision to resign in protest against party secretary general Sharad Yadav’s reported “outbursts” against him.
“I hope the party president (S.R.Bommai) will accept my resignation” Fernandes said in reply to questions at a press conference here Wednesday.
Fernandes said Bommai contacted him Wednesday and asked him what had made him resign from the party Fora.
“I told him all that I wanted to say I have explained in my letter to you. If you want to do something on the issue then better talk to the other state”, he said.
Fernandes had resigned against the reported remarks of Yadav in an interview that Femandes was a “Congress (I) puppet” and was anti-Mandal.
Femandes said he resigned from the party posts as he felt that he would not fit in the since the “chief executive” of the party had chosen to question his credentials.
The former railway minister also said along with him five other senior leaders of the party had been criticized by Yadav.
Although Sharad Yadav Tuesday said that he did not call Femandes a “Congress-I puppet” and that he had been “misquoted” in the interview, Vir Sanghvi, the editor of Sunday”, which had published Yadav’s interview denied that Yadav had been misquoted and said the magazine stood by the authenticity of its interview.
Sanghvi said Yadays words have been reproduced verbatim and there had been no fabrication of questions as had been alleged by Yadav.
