JAMMU: Four fake medical institutes have been unearthed by the Jammu and Kashmir Police.

Eleven people, three of them doctors, were arrested in this connection, a police spokesman said last week. ‘They had been charged with extorting Rs 90 lakh from unemployed youths, he said. The Crime Branch started investigations into the racket after receiving complaints from students undergoing training in these institutions.

The institutes, which have not been recognized, had duped 300 youths by giving them admissions and later promising them diplomas, the spokesman said.
