NEW DELHI: Air India has decided to have European air hostesses on all its flights to and from Europe, the Lok Sabha (Lower house of the Indian Parliament) was told Tuesday. Civil aviation minister Madhav Rao Scindia said in a written reply this had been done with a view lo making air India’s European passenger’s feels at home and to further improve inflight service and competiveness of its projects.

Apology

The opposition in the Lok Sabha Aug.27, sought an apology from premier Narasimha Rao for what they called the shabby manner in which the country’s highest award the ‘Bharat Ratna’ was conferred on former premier Morarji Desai in Bombay last week,

Taking strong exception to the manner of presentation of the country’s highest civilian award by a joint secretary of the government of India, the members wanted Rao to make a statement in the house.

BELGRADE: Yugoslav army jets, tanks and gunships battered Croatian positions Sunday in some of the fiercest attacks yet in the breakaway republic.

News reports said at least 18 people died.

Fighting has escalated among Croatia’s Forces, federal troops and Serbian militant men opposed to secession. Croatian officials have threatened even more attacks unless federal soldiers withdraw.

The heaviest fighting was in and around Vukovar in eastern Croatia, where Croat forces shot down a federal air force plane Saturday.
