NAGERCOIL (PTI): The rapacious eyes of the men saw only the gleaming white of the tusks, But for a grieving elephant, a dear one was lost.

Deep in the Kodalmukku forest in Tamil Nadu’s Kanyakumari district, poachers recently hacked off the tusks of an elephant they had killed, and abandoned the carcass.

But it was not quite abandoned, The dead animal’s mate comes each day to the site, and stands there for hours, sometimes ding tears, according to a forest officer.

He said that three of the eight member gang of Poacher responsible for the killing hay been apprehended. A search is for the remaining five.
