PALAKKAD: Election Commission will be able to fix the dates for the Lok Sabha elections and Assembly elections in six states soon it if the government came out with a decision, Chief Election Commissioner T.N. Seshan said.

Mr. Seshan said the commission was prepared to hold Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh simultaneously, if the Government took the decision and revoked President’s rule in that State.

Mr, Seshan said it was for security reasons that polling was usually held on two days. If adequate security was provided, the commission was prepared to hold the elections on a single day, he added.
