NEW DELHI: Indian Federal Government has exempted a large number of sports goods, equipment’s and requisites from customs duty if imported by certified national sports federations.

The exemption will also apply to spares ‘and accessories as well as to consumables of sports goods. This exemption according to an official press release on Nov. 16, came into force from October 25.

It says an officer of the rank of a director of above in the Sports Authority of India can issue a certificate that the sports goods being imported are required for use in national or international championships being held in India or abroad,

The certificate will also indicate the name and address of the importer and description, quantity and value of the goods.

The customs exemption applies to a large number of sports goods in the fields of Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Billiards and Snooker, Boxing, Cycling, Fencing, Football, Gymnastic equipment’s, Golf, Hockey, Hand Ball, Judo, Shooting, Skiing, Swimming/Water Polo, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Weightlifting and Wrestling report PTI.
