AMSTERDAM, Reuter — Goals by Andre Tielens and Vic Hermans in the final nine minutes gave the Netherlands, one of the favorites, a 42 win over Denmark on the opening day of the inaugural world five aside soccer championship on Thursday.

Paraguay thrashed Algeria 50, four of their goals coming in the first half, in the other group a match in Rotterdam.

Francisco Jauter Alcaraz Leguizamon and Jose Asuncion Sanchez Rodriguez each scored twice for the Paraguayans.

The tournament is being staged in five Dutch cities and involves teams from Algeria, Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Paraguay, Saudi Arabia, Spain, the United States and Zimbabwe.
